 "wonderful!" 2009-06-15

Product works better than I thought it would. Great on my limestone kitchen floor with many grooves. No more hands and Knees!! Got lots of little spots out of carpet quickly and was great at drying up the water from the carpet.

"They keep getting better over the years." 2009-05-10
By Marc A. Murison
We bought a previous generation of this beast ~15 years ago, and after much abuse it finally gave up the ghost. After looking around and reading reviews, we settled on the "All-Terrain" model. (1) The "suck" has improved markedly. I tend to be very thorough, which means multiple do-overs and a pretty wet carpet. Yet this vac sucked up enough of the water that the carpet was pretty much dry again after only 30-45 minutes. The old model took 2-5 hours, and that was with box fans running to help air things out. (2) I really like the separate reservoir for the cleaning solution. (3) Being able to apply just water without the cleaning solution whenever you want is also very handy. (4) It's not any noisier than our old model. The noise is also somewhat mellow in pitch, not "shrieky" like vacuum cleaners are, so our three cats amazingly don't even much mind this machine. (5) Hoover redesigned the dirty-water reservoir, and it is *much* better than before -- no protruding parts to break, and the behavior when full is now reliable and unmessy. (6) Finally! You can easily take apart the machine head and rinse the parts (brushes, etc.) in the sink for easy cleanup. (7) I almost forgot this since it's so familiar to us long-time Hoover users: it lifts an *unbelievable* amount of dirt and grunge from your carpets. Seriously, you won't believe the glop you'll get from carpets you thought were actually pretty clean.

Why not five stars? Two reasons having to do with cheapness. First, the reservoirs are obviously brittle and I fear a careless hard bump will cause breakage, which will effectively render the whole machine junk. Second, the hose and tools attachment is flimsy and of terribly cheap construction (fortunately, unlike the rest of the machine). But they made it so you can just leave that stuff, which you'll rarely use, in a closet. This is another welcome improvement over the old models. For reference, I'm not aware of any carpet cleaner that would get five stars from me.

In summary, for the money you can't do better. Just be careful to not inadvertently whack the fluid reservoirs and you'll be very happy. Well worth the bucks. Knowing what I now know, I'd buy the exact same model again without hesitation.

"Outstanding Performance in Heavy-Duty use." 2009-04-19

I own several rental properties, and this product was purchased in lieu of hiring professionals, or using a commercial Rug Doctor. I have used it in my own home with excellent results, but the real test was cleaning a rental townhouse left in a filthy condition by the previous tenants. All floor coverings had multiple food and human waste stains that had festered for months. First, the Hoover is lighter and easier to load in and out of my minivan than rental-type machines. Same goes for carrying up and down stairs. I had to clean the carpets and vinyl floors FOUR times , each time extracted more BLACK water. After I finished, and cleaned up the unit, the water heater leaked gallons of water on the first floor carpet. I used the Hoover to vacuum up the water, which was much more effective than using a "wet or dry" shop vac. Filling and emptying the tanks is easier and neater than rental-type cleaners, and the rental units do not clean bare floors. Cleaning solid matter from the unit is easy, all parts disassemble and reassemble easily. If you are not careful, you can damage the plastic parts. However, I have put three years wear on my Hoover in three months, have filled and emptied the tanks dozens of times with no leaks, and have disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled all parts over ten times, and everything works like new every time. My Hoover has saved me hundreds of dollars over renting or hiring professionals. It is a well-thought-out design that has exceeded my expectations.

"What good is it if it's broken - A PILE OF CHEAP PLASTIC JUNK!" 2009-04-14

I wasn't going to give this product any "stars" but Amazon forces you to enter one.

This product "looks" great and would be good if it worked like it was suppose to but is made out of such cheap plastic that every moving part literally breaks on the first use or within the first few uses guaranteed!

First it was the trigger on the hand tool making the hose vac useless. Then the connector on the floor brushes making the whole unit completely useless. Now it's completely broken and useless after just a few uses.

Reminds me of one of those cheap imitation products from China that break as soon as you try to use them but this didn't cost $[...] like an imitation Rollex watch you can get at the knockoff outlets.

This was a "genuine" Hoover product being sold at reputable retailers and costs over $[...] making this a complete fraud!

What is really needed is a product where these couple critical moving parts are made of sturdy stainless steel instead of cheap plastic. The whole difference between a good product and a bad one would amount to just a little metal trigger on the hand tool and a metal spindle on the floor brushes. That's it - just a couple extra bucks between a product that would actually work and one that breaks when you try to use it.

"works well on both carpet and hard floors" 2009-04-07

I bought this product to do both my no wax vinyl floor in the kitchen and carpet in the family room and hallway-used it first for the kitchen floor-did a really great job-but you use a lot of cleaner solution and I found I had to change the water tanks frequently-took some time but the results were worth it-next used the carpet cleaner-decided to try a smaller space before hitting the family room-tried it on my hallway carpet that has been down for 20+ years and has seen a lot of abuse-the results were amazing!! The carpet looks 100% improved.

The clean water tank gives me a little difficulty attaching properly-I find I have to try a time or two to line it up so that it clicks in place.

Overall glad I bought this machine
