 "Great home steam cleaner" 2009-04-10
By A. Speer (Dallas, Texas)
We have used Stanley Steemer and Kiwi and were disappointed with our results. This steam cleaner works really well and our carpets look better than ever--despite two dogs and a two year-old. Sometimes I have a problem getting the seal right if I need to refill the tank. It also doesn't get out EVERYTHING. However, when I use it subsequent times on the same spot it often comes out. So for all of you debating if it's worth it, I would definitely say yes!

"I love my rug shampooer" 2009-04-04
By S. Stone
Aside from the fact that you have to make absolutely sure that the dirty water reservoir is completely sealed in order to make the suction work, I love this machine. I've never owned a rug shampooer before and this one has been a great investment. I would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a shampooer. It isn't intended for huge areas but for my condo I find that it is the perfect size.

"early review of hoover steam vac" 2009-03-30
By Phillip S. Moore (Parkville, MD USA)
I just got this product, so while I cannot vouch for it's durability or continued efficiency as of yet, I can say that upon my initial trial I was very pleased with the results. I didn't experience any of the "leaking" problems that people associate with these steam vacs. I just used hot tap water and cleaning solution and the water that came up from my carpets was, I'm embarassed to admit, black! The suction of this machine is powerful also. I had my living/dining room carpets cleaned 2 weeks prior to getting my steam vac and it took almost 24 hours for the carpets to dry. While the floors that I cleaned with the Hoover steam vac were dry within 2 hours.

"Major downgrade from previous models, hand tool no longer viable" 2009-03-23
By Kevin (Bartlett, Illinois)
I have owned a previous generation of this Hoover for 5-8 years. I have pets and use it weekly. We love it. The new generation which arrived today is a huge step backward.

The hand attachment requires you to jump through hoops to use it. It must be attached and detached each time you use it on both ends. Crazy method to attach it. If you dump the dirty water, you must disconnect the hand held hose connection which is tied into the dirty water tank, dump the water and reattached the hose. They have got to be kidding.

The handheld functionality used to be an integral part of these cleaning machines. It is now an afterhought, kind of a joke like most vacuum cleaner attachments. Note the engineering involved in attaching the vacuum attachments has been reused here. Doesn't work very well either place.

When you attached the hose to the dirty water tank, you then connect the cleaning fluid hose to an opening in the top of the deck of the cleaner like you do with some vacuums. Unfortunately, the poor spring closure method for this connection does not allow it to open completely so that you can connect the hose. If you do force it open the attachment can be made. The tension here will break this off sooner rather than later.

The old model had a wonderful tank for dirty water which had a handle for carrying and locked and unlocked very easily. This new model does not. Completely disfunctional for removal and disposal of water. You will have to carry it from the bottom or maybe the sides. Please bring back the handle.

Forget this unless you only want to use it vaccum style and then only for minimal use where you don't have to dump the dirty water often because it just won't be easy to do.

I don't think the folks engineering these have ever used one because if you have used one for any amount of time or volume of cleaning, this product will disappoint. Don't buy it online either cause sending it back after trying to get it out of the box makes it unreturnable. This is not something you can make a judgement on without completely assembling it and giving it a run.

Go to the store and look at what you are buying. This just doesn't lend itself well to buying online even if you owned the previous generation for years. It seemed like a very easy decision based on my excellent success with the previous generation. I will now go hunting for one of the previous generation which excelled at most everything it did.

"Works great while others have failed" 2009-02-17
By Thomas Walsh (Hernando Beach, Fl)
This was a replacement for a Bissel which was broken out of the box. Thanks to Amazon I was able to return the Bissel, the Hoover works great, and was easy to use.
