 "Would never buy again" 2009-11-14
By Lynn C. (USA)
I bought this machine with the highest of hopes that it would last for years and years with good care. Before the first year was up, the power switch stopped working. Although it was covered by service contract, i had to drive 35 miles one way to take it for repair. (and the repain man was not at all pleasant) That first repair lasted three weeks, the second repair lasted 2 weeks and since then it has never worked at the switch. The self propell feature has been stuck in the on position for 2 years. I would never ever purchase a Hoover again. I would have loved to give a glowing review! Sorry Hoover !!!!! Honesty IS the best policy !

 "Disappointed" 2009-08-11
By M. Parks (Idaho)
I bought the vacuum in Feb. 2007 because I wanted one with the self-propelled feature. I had only used it once or twice when it started making a horrible noise. It worked fine, however.

I recently discovered that the off/on switch had stopped working. Fortunately, it was in the on position, so it could start and stop it by plugging it in.

Than the self-propelled feature stopped working. I decided to try changing the flat belt, which operates that feature. After some struggle, I was able to get the old one off, but there is no way I will ever be able to get the new one on. The manual says "extra effort may be required to stretch the belt onto pulley." That is an understatement.

I live 150 miles away from the nearest authorized service center. I'm wondering if it is worth fixing at this point.

 "very disappointed" 2009-03-24
By Betsy B (NC)
I bought this machine a couple years ago to replace an Electrolux canister that worked but was quite old. I wanted an upright vac for ease of use on carpets, as well as something that would take up less storage space in my small house. I was disappointed from the very beginning, for several reasons:

1. This machine has mediocre suction - even when the bag is empty it doesn't come close to what I expected.

2. The attachments do not fit snugly, so I have to hold the extensions onto the hose as I am using them otherwise they don't stay in place. They are prone to come apart at any joint, so using 2 extensions and an attachment for hard floors is ridiculously impossible. It keeps coming apart.

3. The extensions - both of them - cracked within a couple months of purchase. Very poor quality.

4. The hand tool for carpeted stairs has a beater bar powered only by suction, so as the bag gets full the suction diminishes and the bar rotates slower and slower.

5. The machine is VERY loud and VERY heavy. I find it unmanageable on stairs, and need my husband to carry it up and down the stairs for me.

6. The operation of the self-propelled feature is very jerky.

7. When using the attachments, the hose is not long and the vacuum tends to tip over unless I either hold it with one hand while vacuuming with the other (and please refer back to point #2 - this becomes incredibly challenging) or turn the vacuum so it is being pulled forward, with the hose wrapped over the top, which results in less available hose length.

This is the first and last Hoover upright I will ever own.

 "real nice vac" 2008-10-13
By Van E. Wahlgren
This self propelled vac is a real powerhouse. Make sure you don't change the carpet settings unless the vac is locked in the upright. ( a repairman told me the self propelled could be damaged )

Downside.. big and heavy..

Thanks Hoover for good product!

Always remember to check Amazon as they are pretty hard to beat.. Their checkout is real nice..

 "Hoover Self Propelled Sweeper" 2008-09-15
By B. Perdue (WV)
This sweeper was purchased to replace one like it that was several years older. At that time the Self-Propelled Sweeper cost over $400.00 now I got it for less than half of that! What a deal!

At 60 years old I need a sweeper that almost runs by itself and does a great job too.
