"Not living up to Consumer Reports recommendation" 2010-03-05
By Always a Runner
I bought this after being disappointed with my Oreck vacuum and based on Consumer Reports recommendation. This vacuum is VERY heavy. I can hardly lift iT. Within the first week the belt broke. When I went to store to buy new belt, the worker said that a lot of people had the same experience.

Other wise I do like the pick-up..but that's about it.

"Exhausts dirt & dog hair all over when using tools" 2010-03-04
By bicoastalmv (California & Massachusetts, USA)
I purchased this vacuum only after reading many reviews and learning that it was good for pet hair. I've had other Hoovers and have been a satisfied customer--until now.

# As with most uprights, to use the tools, the hose must be disconnected from the a rigid plastic tube that comes from the beater bar and through which dirt and dog hair are carried to the bag when it's being used as an upright.

# On this model, the beater bar never stops rotating (unlike other Hoovers I've had), so dirt, pet hair, and anything else that might be on the floor or carpet is continuously sucked through this tube regardless of whether it's in upright vacuum or tool mode or the machine is locked in the upright position.

# This model was originally made with a cap for the top of the tube when the hose has been disconnected, and it's illustrated in the manual. It's now been "redesigned" (in the words of the several Hoover CS people I eventually spoke to). Even though it's also obvious on the product that it once had a cap, the cap is no longer being shipped and isn't available.

# If the hose has been disconnected from the tube to use the tools, the action of the beater bar continues to suck up dirt, etc., through the open tube, propelling and distributing it in a great cloud throughout the room (that's probably just been dusted!).

# I called Hoover Customer Service four times. They told me to set the adjustment for the beater bar on high (further away from the floor or carpet) and that that would stop the machine from sucking up and redistributing dirt through the open tube and into the room. This doesn't solve the problem, and I don't even have deep pile carpet.

# It does have great suction--but in this instance, I'm not sure if this is the good news or the bad!

# The last Hoover CS person to whom I spoke and also I asked to take back the product refused, saying that the vacuum worked as it was intended to. Interestingly, each of the people with whom I spoke knew exactly what I was calling about without my needing to explain it. This suggests to me that I'm not the only one who has had this problem, despite their claim that it's working properly.

# Bottom Line: Hoovers aren't made as well as they used to be, and their Customer Service people won't deal with obvious performance problems. No more Hoovers for me.

 "pretty good but" 2010-03-02
By C L Smith (Wetumpka, Alabama)
Our old Bissell finally died and while researching a new vacuum, had a chance to use our daughter's Eureka Boss 4 D for 2 weeks. We were totally pleased with the Eureka but were afraid of the durability issues mentioned by a lot of the reviewers. After researching and reading reviews finally decided to purchase a Hoover Windtunnel Bagless Anniversary Edition a month ago. So here are the good and the bad...

The Good:

* Great suction- a disgusting amount of "stuff" is being picked up.

* Effective - the carpet looks clean and almost new again after vacuuming and the pile stands up and is "fluffy" again.

*It has a red / green light that tells you when that section of carpet is clean and when you need to keep working it.

* Although it's mostly plastic and the on/off slider button appears destined

to break over time, the cleaner overall looks and feels solidly built.

* The dirt basket is easy to remove and dump and designed so you don't get dirty dumping the dirt. It also has a crank that vibrates the smaller dust out of the filter.

The bad:

* Some small difficulty in adjusting the beater bar height. I can't just flick it with my toe to adjust.

* The pet hair rotating brush does not work well and if you put too pressure on it actually stopped working. The manual says don't apply so much pressure or it will stop! Poor design. We got disgusted and paid $20 for the Eureka Boss 4 D pet hair brush which fits the Hoover exactly...and works perfectly. You can scrub as hard as you want and it won't stop spinning. We purchased the brush online from Eureka.

* Heavy.

* Hoses aren't long enough to be very useful.

The Eureka also had a electro-statically charged "wand" that was useful for blinds, walls, ledges. You stick it back in it's holder and the dust is vacuumed off......the Hoover did not have this useful attachment.

All in all, the Hoovers we have had in the past have given us many years of faithful service and we are hoping for a repeat performance with the Hoover Windtunnel Bagless .

Purchased the Hoover from Amazon and got everything as promised when promised with free shipping.

 "Defective" 2010-02-16
By B. Watkins (Sherman Oaks, CA)
DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM, It does not come with a tube hose cover so when you use the attachments the debris goes everywhere. I called Hoover about this and they said this is how it was manufactured, nice huh, they can't even give you the missing part. I am sending this back a buying a Dyson. I will never buy a Hoover again!!!!!

"Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Bagged Upright Nice Vacuum!" 2010-02-08
By Kathy S. Thomas (Gastonia, NC USA)
This vacuum cleaner is better than any Hoover product I have ever owned. It was super simple to assemble. The only problem I had with it: the belt broke within five minutes of first use. Figuring this was just a matter of a defective belt, I just went out and bought replacements. I didn't contact the company for a new one, which I am sure I would have gotten one if I had. I didn't want to wait; and they are not expensive at all, so I just bought a 2 pack of belts at my local Wal-Mart.

Replacing the belt was easy. Just remove four screws, take off the bottom plate, lift out the roller, and slip the new belt on. It does take a little strength to stretch the belt into place; but it is not extrememly hard. The vacuum has been working flawlessly since I put the belt on.

I like the dirt sensor on this model. Before, I had no idea if my carpet still had dirt in it after I vacuumed. With the dirt sensor, all I need to do is watch the green and red lights. When the green light stays on, the carpet is free of loose dirt particles.

I'm not sure I like the HEPA filters yet. I have never had to deal witht these before. I did tend to forget to clean the bottom filter in my old vacuum, which probably caused it to lose suction over the years. Since I need to wash the HEPA filter every time I change the bag, I will probably wash the bottom filter, also. Perhaps this will prolong the life of the vacuum.

I really like the full bag indicator on the vacuum. I have only used the vacuum four or five times since I got it. The bag is already showing full. I would have had no idea the bag could have filled up that fast without the indicator. Of course, with the HEPA bags, there is a tendancy for the pores in the bag to get clogged, so, although it does not feel full when it is checked, it still needs changing to prevent rupture of the bag.

This model has soft rubber wheels to prevent tire marks on your carpet. Almost leaves your carpet looking as if you never vacuum! :)

The push in, pull out hose is much easier to use than the one on my old model. On my old model, the hose had almost no suction until you bent over and slid the carpet height adjustment all the way to the right. Then the suction changed from floor to hose. With the WindTunnel, all you do is take the hose out and put the tools on you want to use. When you finish, just take the tools off, and put the hose back in. No bending necessary!

All the tools store on the vacuum cleaner either in the small tool compartment on top of the bag compartment, or on the back of the vacuum where you
