I bought this vacuum about 1 year ago. I've had nothing but trouble with it! I took it to a warrantee dealer a few months back because the red warning light stayed on all the time. It took them 4 weeks to find a bad integrated circuit. They replaced the IC, returned it and two days later the light came back on, to stay!(All filters are clean and always maintained.) About a week ago, the machine is now 13 months old, I tried turning off the machine with the on/off switch. No dice. The machine stays on as long as plugged into AC. I tried moving the on/off switch back and forth several times and the vacuum still stays on! The only plus is that it does a fairly good job of vacuuming.

This vacuums performance "sucks" - not a pun. I am in the market to purchase a new one since Hoover won't stand behind the poor quality of this model. Complaints:
1. The on/off switch stopped working shortly after using. I have to unplug the vacuum to stop.
2. The height adjuster is useless - on hard surfaces, dirt and hair just blow away from the vacuum - not enough suction to pick up anything.
3. The unit is difficult to push forward and pull back.
4. The dirt indicator light is arbitrary and thus virtually useless.
5. The vacuum is awkward to use on stairs: the place to grab is not a handle--rather, it is just an indentation in the plastic, which becomes painful to hold after only a few seconds.
6. The cord does not remain attached to the clamps on vacuum during use: when the cord is fully extended, it pulls loose of the clamps, causing it to constantly get underfoot.
7. The vacuum's motor "revs" loudly at random times and for no apparent reason.
8. The dirt bags are difficult both to attach and to remove.
9. The vacuum has a wide head making cleaning in tight spaces and under cabinet faces difficult.
10. The on-board tool hose is so short it is useless.
11. The wind-tunnel technology leaves a lot to be desired. Sounds like great suction, but cloggs frequently and for no reason.
I could keep going, but I think you get the idea. I wouldn't recommend this vacuum to my worst enemy.

I've had this vacuum for about a year now, and its worked perfectly so far, no issues whatsoever. I don't vacuum too often and so I guess the unit haven't really been subjected to heavy use, but still, I'm very pleased with how well its been running. All the features work, like the dirt finder light and the headlight that illuminates the floor ahead, and nothing has broken. The filter works pretty good, I don't notice any dust being emitted as I vacuum. The weight of it is pretty good too, I don't feel its unnecessarily heavy at all, and its easy to push around on my carpet (the typically apartment stuff, not high pile stuff that might make it a little tougher I suppose). The onboard tools are okay, but I prefer my Shark handheld unit for the stuff I might have to use the tools for. I've owned one other vacuum before that's a bagless one. It looked impressive when the filter is clean and the dirt holder is empty, but the filter clogs up quickly and I had to clean it almost every time I vacuum. Frankly, I'm really glad I don't have to bother with that anymore now that I got a 'regular' vacuum. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the Hoover.

I purchased my vacuum Nov 2006. Within the first year I replaced the on/off switch, which was covered by warranty and confirmed by my local vacuum parts dealer as a common problem with the Hoover WindTunnel. A few months later, after warranty expired, the dirt finder stopped working and the vacuum does not seem to be sucking enough because it cannot pick up fine dirt (like thread) from the carpet no matter what the height adjustment. Then the on/off switch broke again. This time I purchased the part and replaced myself because it was not under warranty and, in my opinion, not worth the cost of labor quoted. I previously owned a Hoover that lasted me 7+ years, and I am very disappointed in this Hoover.

The cover of the owener's manual says, "Congratulations on your purchase!" It should read "Our condolences on your purchase."
We purchased this vacuum 3/3/07. It is a "Supreme Windtunnel", but the model number is U5458-910. We bought one, took it home and assembled it-- doesn't anything come assembled anymore? We found out the Embedded Dirt Finder didn't work. So we took it back, got another one (which we also assembled).
This one literally eats carpet. There have been several times when I'd be vacuuming and suddenly the brush would catch on the carpet and pull up what ended up being a 10-12" strand of yarn. I have repaired our carpet at least six times since we've purchased this thing. I only use it on the highest setting but still it has happened. We did not care for the fact that the brushes do not stop when you use the hand tools, but now I also would have to worry that it might start eating carpet while I'm vacuuming the couch.
The latest "new feature" is that I now must turn it on and off by using the power cord. The on/off switch quit working.
I will never buy another Hoover product again. It is ruining our (less than 5 year-old) carpet and has caused me much aggravation and stress. It's a piece of junk! Actually, I wouldn't give it any stars.
