DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM, It does not come with a tube hose cover so when you use the attachments the debris goes everywhere. I called Hoover about this and they said this is how it was manufactured, nice huh, they can't even give you the missing part. I am sending this back a buying a Dyson. This vacuum cleaner is better than any Hoover product I have ever owned. It was super simple to assemble. The only problem I had with it: the belt broke within five minutes of first use. Figuring this was just a matter of a defective belt, I just went out and bought replacements. I didn't contact the company for a new one, which I am sure I would have gotten one if I had. I didn't want to wait; and they are not expensive at all, so I just bought a 2 pack of belts at my local Wal-Mart.



Replacing the belt was easy. Just remove four screws, take off the bottom plate, lift out the roller, and slip the new belt on. It does take a little strength to stretch the belt into place; but it is not extrememly hard. The vacuum has been working flawlessly since I put the belt on.



I like the dirt sensor on this model. Before, I had no idea if my carpet still had dirt in it after I vacuumed. With the dirt sensor, all I need to do is watch the green and red lights. When the green light stays on, the carpet is free of loose dirt particles.



I'm not sure I like the HEPA filters yet. I have never had to deal witht these before. I did tend to forget to clean the bottom filter in my old vacuum, which probably caused it to lose suction over the years. Since I need to wash the HEPA filter every time I change the bag, I will probably wash the bottom filter, also. Perhaps this will prolong the life of the vacuum.



I really like the full bag indicator on the vacuum. I have only used the vacuum four or five times since I got it. The bag is already showing full. I would have had no idea the bag could have filled up that fast without the indicator. Of course, with the HEPA bags, there is a tendancy for the pores in the bag to get clogged, so, although it does not feel full when it is checked, it still needs changing to prevent rupture of the bag.



This model has soft rubber wheels to prevent tire marks on your carpet. Almost leaves your carpet looking as if you never vacuum! :)



The push in, pull out hose is much easier to use than the one on my old model. On my old model, the hose had almost no suction until you bent over and slid the carpet height adjustment all the way to the right. Then the suction changed from floor to hose. With the WindTunnel, all you do is take the hose out and put the tools on you want to use. When you finish, just take the tools off, and put the hose back in. No bending necessary!

i never write reviews but had to comment on this hoover. for the money it is an absoutely amazing machine. the suction is incredible and it pulls itself along almost if it were a self-propeled machine, which it isnt. the air smells clean as and after you vaccum meaning no dust is coming out of it unlike other machine. i read reviews that were critical of this machine because it wasnt good on bare floors - well duh - it isnt designed for bare floor cleaning! its meant for carpet and it does a phenomenal job! would highly recommend it if you are only cleaning carpet.

The Hoover Anniversary Bagged Vacuum is a flimsy piece of junk. It is made of 85% plastic and all parts are as delicate as it is possible to make them. The moral of this story is if you buy cheap (Chinese) junk, you got cheap junk. After about ten uses in a small floor area, the left wheel broke completely off. This after the tool holders failed, the hose holder going into the intake broke, and the the handle release stopped working because it also broke. I suspect the Hoover waranty does not cover any of this. If they actually fix this breakage I will change this review.



For comparison purposes, we have two of the old Hoover Concept One vacuums made in the USA. These are built like a tank and are still running.



The only good thing about the newer vacuums is the air powered brush. Great for cat hair on upholstry.

I received this for Christmas (I picked it out) and I'm very disappointed. The vacuum is so loud my ears ring after using it to vacuum my house. The suction on the hose is so strong it practically renders the hose unusable for reaching higher than your waist. I even bought the extended hose, same problem. I am so surprised by this as I had a Hoover many years ago and really loved it.



Also, the self-propelled mechanism is jerky. The only good thing I can say is the suction is very strong. Now if they could work on the other problems they might have a vacuum worth buying.



I suggest if you buy this vacuum, invest in a good pair of earplugs!

I purchased one of these vacuums based on reviews such as those here. However, this Hoover is the worst one I have ever owned, Yes, it is powerful, but it is also very heavy and hard to push around. The canister that replaces a bag often gets plugged at the top and must be cleaned manually. Because of the power, the roller brush is very hard to direct on carpeting and it will not clean against the nap of a rug. The hook that holds the cord off the floor is not strong enough so the cord is constantly falling under the unit, and the accessories regularly fall off the handle during vacuuming. And, when it is time to clean the paper filter inside the canister, the job is very messy. I had an Oreck before purchasing this unit and now miss it very much.

I bought this vacuum almost a year ago. At first, it amazed me with how powerful it was and how much cat hair it picked up. I thought the on-board attachment that had the motor was the greatest thing with how well it cleaned my couch and stairs. And I love the auto-rewind cord. My only dislikes were 1. the attachment hose is not very long, 2. the power cord was not very long, and 3. the dirt cup is a poor design that traps a majority of the hair around the filter so that you have to reach and pull it all out.



It kept up with my vacuuming needs for several months (with two cats, I vacuum about once a week). I feel like I keep the filter fairly clean - I empty the dirt cup out with each floor I vacuum and take the whole filter out periodically to wash and dry it. But the vacuum has lost so much suction power that the hose is pretty useless now and even the attachment with the motor that I loved hardly picks up anything. So I will likely replace it in a few months. Too bad... Other reviews warned me but I thought maybe it was a few isolated incidents. It seemed like a good vacuum for the price I got from Amazon but I guess you get what you pay for.

After being sick of junky vacuums that would either fall apart, overheat all the time, or just fail mechanically in some way, I did tons of research on vacuums and ended up going with this one. The main factors that make it so awesome are the incredible suction power, the manly workman-esque color scheme which matches my tools, the see-through bagless cyclonic chamber, the hepa filter, and of course the rewind power cord.



Pros: Firing it up for the first time, you will see dirt and dust that are inches away getting pulled into it. Right away, you know this thing has great suction and isn't taking any prisoners. This is a seriously powerful vacuum. I learned the hard way not to get it near any small loose wires like phone chargers or shoelaces; it tried to suck up an entire sneaker and I had to shut it down because it wouldn't let go! Later on, I got the hose wand near a box of tissues and it started sucking them out of the box one by one! This thing will try to pick up anything and everything, even its own cord. It rolls well, has ample cord length, lots of attachments and other goodies which clip on, a very clean and easy dumping of the dirt container, and is easy to take apart in case you need to change a filter or something gets stuck and clogs up somewhere.



Cons: Alot of people complain about the belts, and I have to admit that this was an issue for me when I first got it. Not realizing how powerful this vacuum is, having the brush height set too low will grind the spinning brush into a carpet and it will get stuck, stopping the belt in place while the cylinder that rotates it continues to spin. It wears right into the belt and starts smelling like burnt rubber and will trash the belt very quickly. I burned through a belt doing this not knowing that's what was going on. However, this is a positive thing because it shows the vacuum will work full speed until failure, even if it destroys itself in the process, which is admirable.



Half/Half: The build quality on this is very good and is overall solid, although some might argue the body plastic feels cheap and lightweight; I've slammed it around several times and it's taken a beating with no broken parts so far. The weight of this vacuum is average, although I can see how some people might say that it's too heavy for them; this vacuum is a beast afterall and does take some strength to use. There are no bad features about it, however the only issue I have with its form factor is that the top main handle can't be made longer, and this vacuum might be uncomfortable to use by very tall people after a short time. Some people have said this vacuum is loud, but it is average for a vacuum of this size. I personally like the roar this thing lets out because I know it's doing its job with all that power.



As for those who've said they loved this vacuum when they first got it, but it somehow started failing, I guess they don't realize that this isn't a piece of furniture. It's a machine with tons of moving parts and needs to be maintained and taken care of. All of the negative reviews I've read about this vacuum point to user error or abuse of the vacuum; most of the time unaware they are using it improperly.



Overall, this is a great vacuum at a great price. It has all the features you'd want, can take a beating, and eats dirt for breakfast with brute force.

For the price it WAS, not what I see now..... this is a good vac. It's not the most expensive so don't expect luxury. As long as you remember to regularly clean your filters, it should work like new again. I do hate, as on any Hoover I've ever owned, that the tools come off their storage area's when in use. A plus is it's a little smaller - which works for me. For under $100, I'd buy again. 2 cats/2 years or so, still using.

Would I buy my previous OTHER expensive beltless Hoover again? NO.

I have had my Hoover Portapower vacuum for 30 years now, YES- 30 years! Still works great, but have had to use tape to hold the wands together ( connection finally wore out after 30 years)....and had replaced the cloth bag two years ago. WE USE THIS THING FOR EVERYTHING...from floors, to walls, to cars and furniture....you name, we have used it. My oldest daughter tried to take it with her when she got married last year....caught her! This thing is older than her!! She's 24, my vac is 30! It still sucks as good as it did the day I bought it 30 years ago! I am keeping my old one for the garage, but its time to get a new one for the house.....I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on any other brand.

Hoover is the only brand my parents used when I grew up, and that's all I have ever used. Their quality speaks for themselves. Looking forward to another great product from Hoover. I will not get rid of the old Portapower, as it still works well...just retiring it to the garage and bringing in a new one for the house!

Nice, decent suction, great portability. The problems are the tools dont' work that well on hard surfaces... better than suction and than most small vacuums that I've seen, but not great (pretty good for the price though). Also, I hate the cord. I actually wish it were shorter, the cord is so long that it gets tangled all the time and I've stopping wrapping it. I'm sure some like the longer cord, but I would have liked it a bit shorter, so as to be less unwieldy.

Overall a good buy and much more "usable" than my old kirby for my house that has no carpet.

PS empty the bag frequently, might be a problem with folks with allergies (like me), but it's better than buying a bunch of disposable bags for the rest of your life and filling the land fills.

I bought this vacuum due largely to the good reviews seen on Amazon. When I got it, I was surprised to find that there are no wheels on it and you are supposed to carry it on your shoulder. A few weeks ago my two year old sneaked behind me while I was vacuuming and the vacuum (which was hanging off of my shoulder) knocked him in the forehead leaving a good bruise. I tried calling Plexsupply which is the company that shipped it to me and they won't let me return it because it is after their 30 day return policy. I do not recommend using this vacuum or the company Plexsupply.

I like this vacuum, but it's only been a year and the motor is making noise. I thought it was something clogging, but when I take the filter out and turn it on, it still makes the noise. I use it everyday and am disappointed that it's making the noise. I cant find a receipt either.

Not realizing how powerful this vacuum is, having the brush height set too low will grind the spinning brush into a carpet and it will get stuck, stopping the belt in place while the cylinder that rotates it continues to spin. It wears right into the belt and starts smelling like burnt rubber and will trash the belt very quickly. I burned through a belt doing this not knowing that's what was going on. However, this is a positive thing because it shows the vacuum will work full speed until failure, even if it destroys itself in the process, which is admirable.



Half/Half: The build quality on this is very good and is overall solid, although some might argue the body plastic feels cheap and lightweight; I've slammed it around several times and it's taken a beating with no broken parts so far. The weight of this vacuum is average, although I can see how some people might say that it's too heavy for them; this vacuum is a beast afterall and does take some strength to use. There are no bad features about it, however the only issue I have with its form factor is that the top main handle can't be made longer, and this vacuum might be uncomfortable to use by very tall people after a short time. Some people have said this vacuum is loud, but it is average for a vacuum of this size. I personally like the roar this thing lets out because I know it's doing its job with all that power.



As for those who've said they loved this vacuum when they first got it, but it somehow started failing, I guess they don't realize that this isn't a piece of furniture. It's a machine with tons of moving parts and needs to be maintained and taken care of. All of the negative reviews I've read about this vacuum point to user error or abuse of the vacuum; most of the time unaware they are using it improperly.



Overall, this is a great vacuum at a great price. It has all the features you'd want, can take a beating, and eats dirt for breakfast with brute force.

For the price it WAS, not what I see now..... this is a good vac. It's not the most expensive so don't expect luxury. As long as you remember to regularly clean your filters, it should work like new again. I do hate, as on any Hoover I've ever owned, that the tools come off their storage area's when in use. A plus is it's a little smaller - which works for me. For under $100, I'd buy again. 2 cats/2 years or so, still using.

Would I buy my previous OTHER expensive beltless Hoover again? NO.

It had great suction for the first couple of months but then it started to gradually lose that strength - but we found nothing causing any blockage. The retractable cord is a pretty nifty feature but I sort of loss track of that when wrestling with the top handle that kept coming loose from the base- due to screw coming undone. It's rather bulky. We tried to find a replacement screw but were unsuccessful. Then it just up and stopped working in the middle of cleaning the other day. It wouldn't turn on. We've had it much less than a year. Complete bummer. I don't recommend.



We give two stars for extra long hose, a good effort on suction(the noise makes you "feel" like you're driving a mustang when your suction is a pinto) and retractable cord nifty add-on thingie ---what can I say I like the sparklies ;)

 "replacing my 30 year old hoover portable" 2010-02-19

I have had my Hoover Portapower vacuum for 30 years now, YES- 30 years! Still works great, but have had to use tape to hold the wands together ( connection finally wore out after 30 years)....and had replaced the cloth bag two years ago. WE USE THIS THING FOR EVERYTHING...from floors, to walls, to cars and furniture....you name, we have used it. My oldest daughter tried to take it with her when she got married last year....caught her! This thing is older than her!! She's 24, my vac is 30! It still sucks as good as it did the day I bought it 30 years ago! I am keeping my old one for the garage, but its time to get a new one for the house.....I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on any other brand.

Hoover is the only brand my parents used when I grew up, and that's all I have ever used. Their quality speaks for themselves. Looking forward to another great product from Hoover. I will not get rid of the old Portapower, as it still works well...just retiring it to the garage and bringing in a new one for the house!

Nice, decent suction, great portability. The problems are the tools dont' work that well on hard surfaces... better than suction and than most small vacuums that I've seen, but not great (pretty good for the price though). Also, I hate the cord. I actually wish it were shorter, the cord is so long that it gets tangled all the time and I've stopping wrapping it. I'm sure some like the longer cord, but I would have liked it a bit shorter, so as to be less unwieldy.

Overall a good buy and much more "usable" than my old kirby for my house that has no carpet.

PS empty the bag frequently, might be a problem with folks with allergies (like me), but it's better than buying a bunch of disposable bags for the rest of your life and filling the land fills.

I bought this vacuum due largely to the good reviews seen on Amazon. When I got it, I was surprised to find that there are no wheels on it and you are supposed to carry it on your shoulder. A few weeks ago my two year old sneaked behind me while I was vacuuming and the vacuum (which was hanging off of my shoulder) knocked him in the forehead leaving a good bruise. I tried calling Plexsupply which is the company that shipped it to me and they won't let me return it because it is after their 30 day return policy. I do not recommend using this vacuum or the company Plexsupply.

I like this vacuum, but it's only been a year and the motor is making noise. I thought it was something clogging, but when I take the filter out and turn it on, it still makes the noise. I use it everyday and am disappointed that it's making the noise. I cant find a receipt either.
